Tomorrow will be 2 weeks exactly until my first half-marathon. In the process of tapering off from running a high of 40 km/week. This week was 30 km, next week will be 20-25. The week of the event I will put in 2-3 5k’s just to keep up my fitness and finalize the pace I am looking to have for the big day.
Being my first run of this length I am getting quite anxious, mostly worried that I am going to have a speed bump within the next 2 weeks that are going to cause me to postpone the run. This caused my run today on the treadmill to have a slower pace then normal. I’m typically pretty durable so I recognize this is in my head and as long as I continue safe practices I will get through without issue. I’m not as worried about finishing, last Sunday I completed 15k and would have had no issues with an additional 6k.
Being a virtual event, I’m extremely lucky that my wife is also in the process of training for the run. We did get some bad news today that the racer package has been delayed so even though we will still be running on March 7th as scheduled, we won’t have our medals or swag to show off after we complete. We will be receiving this a few weeks later. Since its a virtual run, we had the option of postponing the run, but our training has been on pace for this date and we already took the following day off from work and booked massages to help with our recovery. So the race continues to be on.
Although I am planning on writing a post in the future regarding my switch to a plant-based diet, I did want to mention that the change has excellent for my endurance and speed. The weight loss I have been experiencing due to the mostly whole foods has also definitely helped (down 20 lbs since Christmas!).
Will continue to update as we progress towards the date of the half-marathon.
